Why is it running rough?

So mu 87 turbo blew the head gasket. So i took it apart, and put a new one in. It ran great before it blew the gasket. Now i got it to start and run, but it runs really rough, then it dies. What are somethings i need to check? Timing, plugs, vaccume? Dose anyone have a link to a site that shows where the timing marks need to be, etc. Thanks

Post #3 Link You will also need to check the timing once its up and running using a timing/strobe light. Link

Ok, So. ive like tripple checked the timing. Its got fuel pressure, and its got power at the throttel body, and at all the injectors. What are some things that could be wrong, or some tests? Thanks

Have you made certain that the CPS is aligned properly? It doesn't have to be off by much at all to cause the engine to run roughly or not at all.

Help!!!

I replaced the bhg on my 87 turbo. I got it all back together, and it wont run. Got it to start, and run for a couple seconds, and then die. The further i advance the timing, the higher rpms it will run, and longer. The second i give it gas it dies. So far it runs for about 3 seconds. Any ideas?

If adjusting the spark advance is making a difference the physical timing is the most likely source of you headache. Pull the timing belt cover, reset the crank to 0 degrees, zero the cams back out, check the tension on the timing belt and pull the CPS/distributor and reset it to 0 degrees.

If you still have trouble check for error codes and post back.

And use more descript titles in the future...

Why do you need to scatter posts all over the place? Post one and stick with it for that one problem... You do this and half of us don't know what else you've tried or when or what other symptoms there are.

Thread closed. EDIT: Scratch that, I'm going to merge them. Keep it up and I'll set your account to require mod/admin approval for any new threads. ;)

Here's a nice visual thread in the FAQ on setting the timing. http://www.toyota-supra.info/forums/...-e-timing.html Thanks BillUK!

did you make sure it was at TDC compression when you put the CPS back in?
