Okay Im new to the turbo thing. I have a 04 mustang mach 1 (32 Valve V-8) I posted about a month ago about some questions on my 88 supra turbo, anyway got it running all that good stuff. So what is a turbo elbow, downpipe? Is it the exhaust, goes to the exhuast? I am going to change my exhaust anyways from im guessing the turbo down and i see this info about the turbo elbow, downpipe. http://www.toyota-supra.info/forums/index....t=ST&f=4&t=1590 I just want somebody to explain it to me. I have read steve119md post about the manifold which just brings more questions do you want 2.5 to 3 inch or 3 to 3 inch I see many manifolds on ebay any feedback would be great

+bigger is better with a turbo
if you've ever seen a stock elbow (90 degree bend right off the turbo ) you'd have noticed that it's got a major blocked wall inside it .
if you are going to work on the exhaust i would make the elbow part of your plans for sure .
a google will prolly shopw you some before and after shots of the elbows

it's exactly as you see it.... it's the part that bolts to the back of the turbo and to your exhaust downpipe.... a massive improvement upon stock

It all depends on what you want to do, the elbow is restrictive, but the downpipe is REALLY bad becuase the pre-cat in it usually clogs. You can go with a new downpipe and elbow, or a elbow/downpipe that is one piece, or even better IMHO is a divorced downpipe which vents the wastegate to atmosphere instead of into the exhaust system. A lot of cars do that anyways, sounds better, and allows the exhaust to flow the exhaust only, and not the exhaust and excess boost from the turbo, which can kill the flow.

Such is the disadvantage of an integrated wastegate...

ya i knocked out the platinum innards of both cats and it just so happends a 2.5 inch pipe slides right in to both cats. weld it up and looks like cats are still there wowser what a difference.. so thats what the turbo is supposed to spool up like???. he he he !!! and its still a very quiet sleeper...now i am machining my own 90 elbow from an extra one i had laying around.. should free up the rest, cant wait. yehaaa h34r:

yeah, most cats are ceramic on the inside, the metal matrix ones are the best you can get, and if you want to upgrade, get the lowest openings per square inch, as it will flow more. I wouldn't break up a good cat though...
