The W58 and R154 shifters are the same... at least for the MKIII.

That's more of a "short height and less leverage shifter" than a "short throw shifter". For a shorter throw and the same or better leverage you need to extend the lower lever by raising the fulcrum proportionately to the amount the upper lever is shortened (or more).

Personally, I hate the "SOGI short shifter mod", especially on a R154... bleh.

I've found that around half the people who do the "SOGI mod" mod like it while the other half end up looking for a replacement shifter. I don't like it myself, but I've driven with the real deal. I'd rather have a shifter built for a pickup and more leverage over the SOGI. The C's is very nice and feels great, but costs a ton. I want to try the short shifter available from SupraSport but haven't been able to justify it yet (more important things to upgrade). The Mokeeh (sp?) has terrible reviews, but is the only one i'd seen under $200... until now. I've never heard of the one you mention and I'm weary of it. If it does end up working well for you please take some pics and measurements and post back with all the details.
