oil with spark plugs don't mix

so i just recently bought a 1990 supra turbo with about 120500 miles on it, i plan to keep the body pretty much untouched unless for paint but I'm planning on definitely adding a a lot of power to. so i right now i got two questions, i recently read that getting a divorced downpipe adds hp so can anybody explain who that works??
also i was recently changing the spark plugs and as i took the old ones out some were covered in oil, any ideas to what is causing that?
any help appreciated thanks

Oil on plugs

1 Attachment(s)
The 4 plugs on the NO3 Oil Cover are leaking - very common.

Its the black plate over the plugs.

They go right to the valves.

Put Oil plug washers on them and RTV

There is a geat sticky on this topic on the MKIII form

ok thanks
btw what does rtv mean? kinda new here

Krem 09-25-2009 07:40 PM

looking across the net, closest match I found for RTV was "Rotary Throttle Valve"... but I'd imagine that's something I'd find in a Mazda... not a Toyota... then again, a lot of things rotate in an engine block... so perhaps someone more mechanically enclined could confirm or say what it means..

Room Temperature Vulcanising (RTV). Silicon Sealant or I would recommend this product if you can get it in the US. Link it has the consistency of maple syrup and never dries, recommended by vintage car builders developed for Rolls-Royce.

Thanks
is it a problem that has to fixed immediately?

Rtv

Its a permatex silicon sealer for oil gaskets and water hoses.

Oil in the spark plugs leads to misfires, destroyed spark wires and if hardened, impossible to remove plugs.

Not to mention the tar that will develop over time. Should take care it.

oil on plugs...

Are you saying oil on one side of plugs, or both? I have 89 supra and doing same, but covered in oil on both sides. The problem is oil plug washers??? How is it getting to both sides of plug and all over coils? thanks.

I have done mine and all you need to do is to remove all of the parts like you was going to change your plugs out and take a 14mm hex socket and remove the hex bolt put the gasket with the RTV on both sides of the gasket and place back in; be careful not to tighten it too much or you'll crack the gasket. Or you'll have to repeat the process. Also, make sure to clean out your spark plug galley from all the oil and replace your plugs with new ones and check your plug wires and replace and or clean off as needed.
