Tranny question

'89 Turbo R154. In fourth gear on the highway when I stuff it, it revs up to 4000 rpm and stays there for several seconds with little acceleration, as if something were slipping. Now I dont have a million whp, more like 300, so its not wheel spin. Is my fourth gear packing up? Or could it be something like my center bearing? I had to replace the one on my Z32 and this one looks fairly beat. But I also have no where near the vibration my 300ZX had so I'm fairly clueless. Sorry, but I know little about transmissions and drivetrains...
