if you do a proper rebuild and drive it well and maintain it well, as well as use quality parts and make sure they are in strict tolerances, you should have a motor that will last you way over 5 years. Cars can last a lifetime, people just drive them hard and dont maintain them.

He's right. Even if you buy a used one with low miles and the compression and leak down checks out, all you have to do is PROPERLY maintain it and you can have a car for well over 5 years.
