actually i found out today, the automatic is the same in both models a340e but in the manual versions the non turbod supra is a w58 and it is weak, the one in the turbo is a r156 and it has very different internals so the autos are the same but the manuals arnt

the manual trannies are different but you can still use a non-turbo tranny w/ a turbo motor and viseversa. the only thing about that is that the w58 doesn't hold power like the r154

Should be able to swap a turbo tranny into a N/A. If you get the R154 with the bellhousing for the 7MGTE they have the same housing. The only problem you will have is the driveshafts are different. But that is easily fixed if you get a solid driveshaft. I would say yeah go ahead and swap it but if you just wanna W58 I have one you can have just come get it. As for the different lengths on the W58 and the R154 they are the same length I measured because I wanted to know before I put my 1JZ in.

the autos on the gte might be a little stronger but i cant confirm that, the w58 is not by any means weak, it can hold up to 400hp, toyota doesnt make weak trannies, and its r154, not r156, that can hold loads of hp, front half of the driveshafts are all different on all models

yes i agree the trannys are both built powerful but i would much rathyer have the r154 because of the internals they built the r154 for the turbo and it it stronger then the w58 so i would rather go with the r154
