i have a question in dire need of answering

alright i need some advice, ive heard that hks head gasket and arp head bolts are the best combo. but i have a bigger dilema mines automatic. i need to know if the stock 7mge transmission will fit into a 7mgte. i know the trannys are the same a340e but i dont know if they have different ratios or different internals. i need to know caus ei found a running supra for 400 bucks but i dont know if the n/a tranny will do the job for my turbo engine??? please get to me

I would think not. The NA manual tranny doesn't work for the turbo cars, so I don't think the NA automatic would work for the turbo car. Not strong enough. Or different lengths.

actually i found out today, the automatic is the same in both models a340e but in the manual versions the non turbod supra is a w58 and it is weak, the one in the turbo is a r156 and it has very different internals so the autos are the same but the manuals arnt

bu tthank you for your feedback.

the manual trannies are different but you can still use a non-turbo tranny w/ a turbo motor and viseversa. the only thing about that is that the w58 doesn't hold power like the r154

tsupra89 11-08-2007 03:50 PM

qyeah weaker internals so i would rather find a turbo tranny. but if anyone needs a good running supra for a g i know where one is, its been wrecked maybe like 3g damage but it runs and you can prolly get it for like 800 if you want to drive to asheville

ok, so im sittin here now, wondering whether a Turbo tranny will swap into a non turbo car with no hiccups... anyone care to enlighten me?

supradaddy0803 11-09-2007 06:10 PM

Should be able to swap a turbo tranny into a N/A. If you get the R154 with the bellhousing for the 7MGTE they have the same housing. The only problem you will have is the driveshafts are different. But that is easily fixed if you get a solid driveshaft. I would say yeah go ahead and swap it but if you just wanna W58 I have one you can have just come get it. As for the different lengths on the W58 and the R154 they are the same length I measured because I wanted to know before I put my 1JZ in.

hmm.. ok maybe tranny will need to wait till i get more cash lol, 1 more question ive bin wondering about, ive bin lookin at aftermarket throttlebodys, but theyre all for the GTE, would they fit in the GE? or would i need one specifically designed for the GE?
