Default 1984 5m to 7mgte swap

so i found a 7mgte car that the guy is willing to trade for my 7mge car.

as far as i have researched, to put this into my celica supra, i need to relocate the oil filter, get a tach adapter and engine mounts from 5m, as well as oil pan and somthin else from my 5m.

can anyone confirm this??

http://www.celicasupra.com/forums/sh...7mgte-swap-FAQ

also im not so sure about the wiring??

do i just need the ecu, and then get the tach to work?? does anyone know what the other plugs in the engine harness are?? i know 3 of them are for the ecu but what are the other, and what else should i have to switch over??

any advice is greatly apreciated, and i am in no hurry, i will probly start by dropping the engine and tranny in to see where the shifter lands, and then think from there...

im sure it will be easier to think about this when its in the car and im looking at it.

I did this swap 3 yrs ago. The mounts u will need to use is pre 89 and it will drop in. Shifter will end up in the right spot.. as for wiring. There is the c1 plug by the junction block that needs wired.. and the other plugs in the glove box is all the signal wires. some for the gauges and others for the ignition wires (tells it whwn to crank) go to 1jz.com and click on the wiring diagrams andd it will tell u what wires are on the 7m harness plugs and wire colors. Then just get a diagram for your mkii. And match each circuit. The swap isn't that hard but harder then a 1jz in mkiii. Any questions I'd be glad to help.

i was told my 5m motor mounts would work fine.

and i will check out that site thanks alot!

is what i learned about the filter and tach adapter true??

and if the shifter ends up perfect, that would be best!, because this is the nicest supra i have ever owned (body/ rust/ garage kept, lsd works...) and i would prefer to make as little holes as possible.

although i have already drilled a 4 inch hole for IC piping while i was doing some work for a 5mgte (still my dream to have a 5mgte i like the 2.8 5m, and 2.5 1j for the smaller stroke)

i will start reading about the wiring as soon as i have some time!

THANK YOU for a reply, i am really stoked to get my mk2 rolling again, but i am patient and will do this right.... this is my baby.

Yes I'm sure u will be thorough... and u will use the mounts from the 5m that is in the chassis... but the 5m mounts won't bolt to the 7m block (i tried) but the pre 89 mounts for the 7m block will work perfectly.

I apologize I skipped over two of your questions. Yes the filter needs to be relocated.

Yes you also need a tach adapter.

When doin the wiring if u can get ahold of the mkiii chassis plugs and cut the 5mge plugs u could make adapters rather the needing to cut the 7m harness or especially your chassis harness...

Now this may be out of line but if u have read my other threads u kno I'm a jz fanatic... I have owned 3 7mgte and they were good engines but I now have a 1jz and know a ton of locals that have 2jz. I woukd highly recommend u consider a jz engine. A LOT more reliable. And faster mod to mod. Without having to open the engine up for the famous BHG like the 7m a jz can make 600hp with upgraded fuel system and turbo. Not to mention they look so much better. And the sound is oh so heavenly!!! I just say this cuz i wish I would have done a jz rather then a 7m after I was done in my mkii...
