well thank you for confirming for me that the transmission is virtually the same. ive heard it is but i havnt got a positive answer really accept for 1 person on the celica supra forums....

ya the 7mgte used the r154 i believe is wat it is the only diferrence is the gear ratio the r154 has a shorter gear ratio than the w58 i believe not 4sure tho. good luck tho.

There's really not much difference in the gearing between the R154 and the W58, the big difference is in differential.
7M-GE (all years) = 4.30:1 7M-GTE ('87 - '88) = 3.91:1 7M-GTE ('89 - '92) = 3.73:1
