85 supra problems

i have a 1985 supra and my speedometer doesn't work. i took it to the shop and the mechanic said that the plastic piece for the speedometer doesn't touch the gears. anybody know whats up?

Are you in Fremont in the San Jose area? I have MKII parts , including speedo cables.
