Complete change of pace....
My last build turned out to be hopeless. The body of the car was useless to me, it required too much bodywork and too much bondo. So i found a car that better suited my needs. http://i123.photobucket.com/albums/o...ra/mytarga.jpg I got new window louvers so the ugly faded ones will be replaced by brand new shiny ones. http://i123.photobucket.com/albums/o...0126071230.jpg Body kit Shineauto Gracer front bumper Bomex sideskirts Bomex rears - just bought 89+ taillights 89+ molding Sunshade - just bought Turn Signal Covers - just bought Ruff Racing R280 Rims 18x9.5 rear 18x8.5 front I just got the turbo engine and tranny It was all going good, I was buying a new item every week. Then I got fired for a BS reason, so i cant buy anything else until i find a new job. I was just about to buy the rest of the body kit also. http://www.supramania.com/forums/ima.../icon_evil.gif It sucks. I also jumped in on a TRD shift knob group buy. I got the knob in like 4 days. It kinda scared me because there was no confirmation of a recieved payment. Here is the new engine after some cleanup http://i123.photobucket.com/albums/o...des/Turbo2.jpg http://i123.photobucket.com/albums/o...des/Turbo1.jpg http://i123.photobucket.com/albums/o...ades/New7M.jpg a new intercooler i cant use yet, i need a bigger turbo. 24x12x3 without end tanks, 3" inlet/outlets. http://i123.photobucket.com/albums/o...ntercooler.jpg Saved some items from the last car that I was going to use. The LIPP high flow fuel rail and the aeromotive fuel pressure regulator. http://i123.photobucket.com/albums/o...s/100_2133.jpg http://i123.photobucket.com/albums/o...s/100_2136.jpg A list of upgrades that I'll be buying after i get a new job and the rest of the body kit: Forged JE pistons, .20 over Pauter Rods FFIM w/ Q45 TB +1mm full Ferrea valve train JT70 turbo Tial BOV 680CC RC Injectors Aeromotive A1000 fuel pump 3" Cooleze downpipe 3" exhaust C's short shifter Jaws Gear aluminum 1 pc. driveshaft I haven't decided which clutch I'll use yet, i was looking at the clutchmasters stage 3, but i dont really want a harsh engagement. I'm not sure if I'll get a lightened flywheel either. As of right now, I'll put the engine in with the W58 instead of the R154 because I don't have a driveshaft for the R154. I was going to buy the Jaws Gear one but i got fired the day I was going to order it. The W58 has an upgraded clutch so it should be fine for a bit. The engine will stay stock for a little while so I can just get used to driving the car again, it's been 2 years since I've driven a Supra lol. And after a long time of searching for some nice black rims with a chrome lip i finally settled on some rims. The Ruff Racing R280s. 18x9.5 and 18x8.5 +35 offsets for front and rear. Picture of said rims....http://www.hubcap-tire-wheel.com/ima...cing-r280b.jpg I'm still doing the black with red accents theme. I got an 89+ climate control with red LEDs in it, and I put red LEDs in the gauge cluster. I just need to work on the interior again. And thats about it, I'll post pics of some little things as I go along. As soon as I can find a place I can use to swap the engines, I'll post some more pics. And sorry about the disorganized post. Lol. |
The car is coming together pretty nicely so far. The Supra by itself was only around 600$, but let's see how much the car costs altogether after you fix it all up. You have to tell me.

New pics...
These are the smoked turn signal covers and the TRD shift knob http://i123.photobucket.com/albums/o...Picture099.jpg A couple of close ups of the knob http://i123.photobucket.com/albums/o...Picture100.jpg http://i123.photobucket.com/albums/o...Picture101.jpg And this is the sunshade and Bomex rears http://i123.photobucket.com/albums/o...Picture104.jpg I have $1k coming in from my tax return. And then about $500 more in late April. I'm still trying to decide what I'm going to buy. I'm probably going to get some 2.5" intercooler piping, Bomex sideskirts, stock accordian hose, and a boost controller. And then in April I'll probably buy a front face intake manifold. In the mean time, I towed my car to where my parents work and the owner of the place said I can do the swap in the parking lot. Before: http://memimage.cardomain.net/member...23_22_full.jpg After: http://memimage.cardomain.net/member...23_50_full.jpg I have a write-up on how to remove a 7M-GE on my CarDomain, but the engine was a Cressida engine, so it is probably a little different but not enough that it will give you problems. |
Old engine out new engine in...
http://i123.photobucket.com/albums/o...Picture137.jpg http://i123.photobucket.com/albums/o...Picture138.jpg http://i123.photobucket.com/albums/o...Picture139.jpg I swapped it in on Sunday, took me from 1-5 just to get the damn thing in and bolted down. And got it running today (Monday) |
good going
im doing just about the same thing you are ....my 87 is red and im going black with red accents....not much red just basically stitching on the interior and the calipers....nothing too ricey...i also need a dash and i need the black molding all around the car ....how much did you pay for the trd shifter....and on ebay there is a kick ass trd steering wheel that im going to be getting..heres the link
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/JET-S...QQcmdZViewItem but im modeling my car after a pair of shoes that i have that are adidas racing shoes black with red stitching ...im even getting the tires that the bottoms are modeld after |
I paid $64 shipped for the shifter from Toyota. Any pictures of the adidas shoe? lol
Anyway, more updates... The engine is a little more cleaned up and is running now. Couple of pics and a very short vid of it running. http://i123.photobucket.com/albums/o...Picture140.jpg http://i123.photobucket.com/albums/o...Picture141.jpg http://i123.photobucket.com/albums/o...Picture142.jpg The reason the exhaust sounds like that is, well, because it doesnt have one. Lol. It only has the elbow and a quarter of the downpipe. |
this is the shoe it didn't show up see it here the bottom looks like a goodyear eagle f1 tire

Nice job :bigthumb:
Looks like you've been planning this out for a while. I'm impressed!!! |

Couple of updates...
New door lock bezels straight from Toyota, along with the slave cylinder hardline I bent the hell out of putting the engine in. http://memimage.cardomain.net/member...23_57_full.jpg Brand new accordian hose from Horse Power Freaks http://memimage.cardomain.net/member...23_56_full.jpg I will have more pics of the other things i'm getting on Friday night. |
New parts from Driftmotion!
New Aisin Slave Cylinder http://memimage.cardomain.net/member...23_58_full.jpg 2.5" IC pipes with a TiAL BOV adapter with two 2.5" to 2.25" couplers http://memimage.cardomain.net/member...23_59_full.jpg On Tuesday next week I'll be getting my TiAL BOV. I need a driveshaft. I found one in Miami but the guy wants $150 and I'm not looking to spend that much. But if I can't find one soon I'll give in and go buy it. I'll put the intercooler and the piping on tomorrow if it doesn't rain. |
I bought a few new parts. I have 89+ tail lights and a drive shaft coming to me. I'm having some trouble putting the intercooler pipes in, lol. But I'll get it eventually.
A couple of parts.... A used Stewart Warner Boost Gauge http://i123.photobucket.com/albums/o...Picture154.jpg And a new TiAL 50mm BOV http://i123.photobucket.com/albums/o...Picture155.jpghttp://i123.photobucket.com/albums/o...Picture156.jpg http://i123.photobucket.com/albums/o...Picture156.jpg |
Another new part http://www.supramania.com/forums/ima...on_biggrin.gif Adjustable Fidanza Cam Gears
http://memimage.cardomain.net/member...23_62_full.jpg I put the new slave cylinder and hardline in earlier today and replaced the broken ISC hose with a piece of 5/8" heater hose because i broke it by accident. I also installed the boost gauge. I just shoved it into the ashtray slot for now. So now all thats left is hooking up the IC piping and the driveshaft. And then it's on the road. |
man you're on a roll
|
Lol. I'm about done with this roll. I just have a couple more things coming. A driveshaft and 89+ tails. Now it's just a waiting game until something breaks or blows. Only a MKIII Supra owner would say that. :) Which is when I'll start my rebuild. Then I'll be on another more expensive roll in which each part will cost $500+. Lol
|
Ok, well I got all the intercooler piping on, the blow off valve hooked up, the driveshaft on, and fluid in the transmission. I went to hook up the clutch and realized I had to get a new rubber hose that is a Toyota only part. So that ended my fun because I swore to myself that today would be the day it drove. So now all I do is sit in the car, rev it, and pretending like I'm driving. It's sad. :3d_frown: . I had to buy a new battery also cuz my last one was dead. On another note, I got all my dash lights working. It was the stupid dimmer switch. I had an extra one laying around. Although I could've sworn I changed it. It looks pretty bad ass at night with all red. I'll take a pic and post it here.
I guess I hooked up my boost gauge wrong because it's not reading boost. I'll fix that another day tho. |
As far as your boost gauge, I see that it is only a boost gauge not a combination vacuum/boost. You will not make any boost revving the engine in neutral.
I'm just curious, but what rubber hose are you talking about that has to do with the clutch? |
It's the last rubber hose coming from the clutch master cylinder. It attaches to the hard line that goes to the slave cylinder. It's a simple fix but dammit i wanted the car on the road already. And now i have to wait until friday. I need to get my daily driver to the dealer for some repairs under warranty.
|
Well, tomorrow I should get the short rubber clutch line tomorrow. And if I do, I'll definitely have the car on the road. A couple more pics.
Red dash LEDs. Some of the lights look dim but I can assure you they are all mighty bright. But like some have said, you can't see where the redline starts. O well. We all know where it is anyway, lol. And the picture makes some of the climate control lights look orangish but they are red also. http://i123.photobucket.com/albums/o...Picture168.jpg And a picture of the upper intercooler pipes and TiAL BOV. Since I didn't hook up the power steering I took out the reservoir. http://i123.photobucket.com/albums/o...Picture167.jpg |
How difficult was it to install a universal intercooler pipe kit? Did you have to cut a lot of the pipes?
|
I only cut 1 pipe. Well 2, but I didn't use one of them. I cut the 140* pipe so it'll come off of the 3000 pipe and go the direction I needed it to. The intercooler pipes were a bitch to get on. I ended up using some of the rubber sections and the metal 90* piece from the stock intercooler pipes. So there is some restricted flow in my setup. But that's of no concern to me now, lol. If you are using the stock intercooler you need to get reducers. Whatever the piping size is down to 2". You'll need a reducer for the turbo as that is 2" also. And the 3000 pipe is 2.25" so you might need a reducer for that one.
|
Car is officially on the road now. I got it on the road on the 7th. It has a couple of vacuum leaks and it's throwing a code 14. So i need to fix that. It idles a little rough but thats ok it stays running. I've driven a little over 200 miles now on the new engine. I've loved every minute of it.
The first day I drove it, I had the wastegate shimmed to 10-11 psi. It ended up blowing up the coupler between the 3000 pipe and the TB. Which turned it into a boost leak. It felt like what some people on here described as fuel cut so I took out the shims to put it at stock boost. It still did it, so I retightened my intercooler pipes and still had the same problem. So I stepped back to look at the whole engine and i noticed the coupler was split all the way down the side. So I cut up a foxbody mustang's accordian hose and I'm using that for now. I'm about to order a new coupler. I switched out the steering wheel to an 89 (which is much more comfortable than the 86-88) along with 89+ taillights. I only have a pic of the taillights right now. I've also replaced the spark plugs which I gapped to .32 and I replaced the spark plug wires. Before http://i123.photobucket.com/albums/o...Picture094.jpg During http://i123.photobucket.com/albums/o...Picture172.jpg After http://i123.photobucket.com/albums/o...Picture175.jpg I'll have pics of the steering wheel tomorrow. I'm thinking about buying some sound deadening material. I'm not worried about weight so it doesn't matter how much weight it adds. Once I get the sound deadening material, i'll start to redo my interior. I'm also getting the drivers side window motor fixed on Saturday. It was a bitch to pull out so I'm using a hook up and having someone at a dealership to do it for free. :biglaugh: |
nice job, keep up the good work and keep us updated
|
Wow, so a lot has happened since I last updated. On the way to get the window fixed, the car overheated. It turns out the radiator was clogged up and the cap was trashed. So I bought a new radiator, new radiator cap, and a new fan shroud. And my alternator died on me so I bought a reman. one from Bennett Auto Supply.
http://i123.photobucket.com/albums/o...0Supra/114.jpg I also changed my master cylinder as that went on me also. I replaced it with a brand new Aisin one. I'll be in North Carolina from the 2nd to the 8th so the car is going into the shop next week while I'm away. I'm getting 4 new tires on it, a new rear window, and a new non cracked dash board. http://i123.photobucket.com/albums/o...a/100_2963.jpg It's pretty severly cracked. As you can see. Here's a better picture of my dash and A/C LED conversion. The tach is only half lit. My temp gauge LED went out for some reason and I've been too lazy to pull it out to see what happened. Otherwise, the whole cluster is a bright color. http://i123.photobucket.com/albums/o...a/100_2962.jpg And heres a short clip of run down a local street. Open downpipe at 8 psi. http://i123.photobucket.com/albums/o...h_100_2958.jpg And lastly, a picture my girlfriend took... http://i123.photobucket.com/albums/o...a/100_2959.jpg I'll have pictures of the new tires, windows, and dash when I get the car back. And I'll finally get to put my hatch sunshade back on. |
so you spendin all this dough, you got a new job?
|
Lol I'm only buying the tires. And I'm buying them at cost so it's still not much money. The rear window is free. It's good to know people in high places, lol. But to get the money for the tires, I tiled a garage floor. So I got that and then some. It still wasn't worth it, lol. I'm putting the car in the shop when I get home so I can monitor what's going on. I'm getting quite a bit of work done to it besides the tires and windows which I will post here when it gets done.
|
Wow!
Holy smokes, you've done an amazing job with that car!!! good job!!!
Can't wait to see a drag slip ;) -Gab |
Where would one find new carpets is that a dealership thing?
Car is looking good keep it up! |

? No, lol. t.ortlieb, thanks for the comment. I haven't posted much of an update. But I decided to do a RHD swap. I sent it into the shop on Thurs. He said he'd start working on it tomorrow (Monday). So I'm gonna go over there and take some pics hopefully before they start on it. If not, oh well. I'll still take some pictures. This is when we were loading the Supra on to the truck. The front clip I'm using is on the flat bed part http://i123.photobucket.com/albums/o...a/IMG00048.jpg After the swap is done, I'm putting the stock motor back in then saving up for some Tein Type Flex coilovers and some swaybars. Anyone have some input on a good set of swaybars? After I do the suspension, I'm putting the body kit on it and am going to have it painted. Body kit is as follows... Replica Greddy Gracer bumper http://i123.photobucket.com/albums/o...a/100_3161.jpg Replica Bomex sideskirts and rears http://i123.photobucket.com/albums/o...a/100_3175.jpg Replica Sunshade http://i123.photobucket.com/albums/o...a/100_3172.jpg Replica Turn Signal Covers http://i123.photobucket.com/albums/o...a/100_3173.jpg And one last picture of it being LHD... http://i123.photobucket.com/albums/o...a/100_3168.jpg I'm still dying for a set of 89+ trim. I can't find a set for the life of me. I cannot get the car painted without the 89+ trim. I got some new rack boots, inner and outer tie rods, polyurethane steering rack bushings, and a SS braided power steering line. I have to switch the new RHD gauge cluster lights to the LEDs again. |
Nice, The only thing I can see possibly being a issue is the tranny tunnel. Since the driver has more foot room the tranny tunnle might be a problem. Nothing a little creative metal work wont fix but it may hamper some progress. Good luck!!
Ahh since it wont be LHD anymore, just sling that old gauge cluster over to me, ehh? :naughty: If your interested in selling it shoot me a PM please. Thanks. |
Sorry chambers, I gave away my old LEDs and the gauge cluster to someone else.
Anyway, not much to update. Car is still in the shop and they haven't done much. I went there on Tuesday and all they've done was pull the dash out of the clip and my armrest out of my car. :frown: They've had it for about 21 days now. Only thing to update is that I messed with my RHD cluster now. I was upset with the orange coloring on the needles so I changed them to red. After I scraped all the orange paint off with a razor blade I put this stuff on with a microfiber cloth. It worked awesome to get it to a clear finish. I used two different plastic polishes during this. Plastic-x and this and this stuff worked much better. http://i123.photobucket.com/albums/o...a/IMG00062.jpg Then I put some of this paint on the underside of the needles where the stock orange paint was http://i123.photobucket.com/albums/o...a/IMG00063.jpg And it came out like this, (Sorry about the cell phone pics, my g/f has my camera) PS - I know the speedo and tach are a little bit off. http://i123.photobucket.com/albums/o...a/IMG00070.jpg http://i123.photobucket.com/albums/o...a/IMG00068.jpg You can see on this one, I spray painted the middle pieces of the needles with a satin black spray paint because I couldn't get to the orange in the center. http://i123.photobucket.com/albums/o...a/IMG00067.jpg I also ordered new LEDs for the back of the cluster and just put them in today. 4 red 194 LEDs, 3 super white 194 LEDs, 1 red 74 LEDs, and 5 super white 74 LEDs. The super white 74 LEDs are for the random things on the cluster, like the seatbelt light, turn signal lights, high beam light, etc... Anything with a colored filter on it. I have no clue how the white will look against the filters so it's more of an experiment than anything. Unfortunately I won't have the car for another undetermined amount of time so I won't know what all the lights look like for a little while. I also heard that the harness in the front for the lights and what not need to be extended for the RHD swap. I don't see how that would be necessary but I won't know until I start putting the motor back in when I get the car back. So if this rings to be true, the car will be down for a little longer. |
dude ur awesome
|
Lulz, thanks.
SMALL UPDATE... So I get bored easily. And since the car is STILL in the shop, I took the dash board home and decided to paint it because it looked nasty. Before... http://i123.photobucket.com/albums/o...a/IMG00077.jpg After... http://i123.photobucket.com/albums/o...a/100_3202.jpg And a couple of shots with a decent camera of the gauges/needles... http://i123.photobucket.com/albums/o...a/100_3203.jpg http://i123.photobucket.com/albums/o...a/100_3205.jpg And I've put all the LEDs in it but I haven't been able to check what it looks like since I don't have the car yet. He said I should have it back in 2 weeks, and I told him I'm going to try to make the FL2K8 Lexus/Supra meet on the 25th of this month. So we'll see. I also told him that since he took the old front bumper off, to put the new Gracer one on so it'll come back with that. http://www.supramania.com/forums/ima...on_biggrin.gif That black is my new interior color by the way. I've decided to spray it all a semi flat black instead of what I had planned on my last supra. Which was gloss black with a gloss red accent theme. Now it's going to be semi flat black with red stitching. A few pics from my old supra... http://i123.photobucket.com/albums/o...Picture080.jpg http://i123.photobucket.com/albums/o...Picture002.jpg |
Wow, that nice!!
|
Did you use spray paint or a spray gun?
