I'm definately no expert, but if you had no shifting problems before you had the "upper end rebuilt", and now all of a sudden you have problems, I would think maybe they didn't connect it back...

OK, so I go the radiator topped off, and I don't leak coolant. But you say I should fill the plastic res to half full? That's easy enough, but I thought the plastic reservoir was only for overflows....

Ok, my coolant is topped off, but there is none in the plastic reservoir tank. Is that good or bad. I thought the reservoir was for overflow. The car never overheats.

If Toyota did not Torque the head bolts to the correct strength, why can't they just be torqued down a little harder? Wouldn't that be a preventive measure to guard against blowing the gasket?

I just had this problem today and here is the solution straight up from the dealer. I have an 89 and this worked. With the driver side door open, insert the key and turn it to the unlock position...
