Fuel injector cleaner won't cause white smoke. So if you're serious about the car definately take it to a knowledgeable shop and have them check things out if you're not interested in doing it...

If you've got a JDM ecu, no problem, as JDM engines didn't have the EGR system. It's only when you've got a USDM engine or an ecu which is setup for an EGR to be present that it's a real problem.

After asking around town found a shop that can clean and reseal it if necessary. Won't be cheap (about $100 for the reseal), but that's still a LOT better than the cost of a new one.
