first, swap in a turbo motor. dunno about the non turbo, but my turbo ate up lightly modded civics no problem. actually, only cars i've lost to so far are a Z06 vette and an Evo 8 pushin 20 psi (and he only won because we raced from a dig and the road was soaked)
