all motors take oil and about the same type.
some in different ways than others:

2 cycle- oil mixed with gas (some dirtbikes, jetskis, snowmobiles)
4 cycle- oil in engine already (lawnmower, car)

lawnmowers use straight 30 not 5w30 cuz your not gonna use your lawnmower in the winter, so theres no need for the 5w.

most cars use 10w30 or 5w30 cuz they r used in the winter

i also have a question about drain plug gaskets. when do you have to change them and what do you use? do you use the same exact type????

the drain plug gaskets should be changed with every oil change. theres a few types, copper type, felt type, and rubber type. rubber gaskets are usually built into the plugs on most GM's copper plugs on nissans BMW's etc should be changed every time. and im not sure any manufacturer actually uses felt type, i think thats more of an aftermarket gasket..

also, european cars and older american cars (muscle) use 10w40 sometimes

high end cars like some caddys, beamers mercedes land rovers etc. sometimes call for Full Synthetic oil only.

almost all honda motors require 5w20, along with most modern fords.

diesels usually run on 15w40 made by companies like Shell Rotella.

diesels also usually take upwards of 10 quarts (trucks)

All Honda, Mazda, Ford, Chrysler, and Dodge years 2001 and up take 5w-20. All others come with 5w-30 from the factory. 5w-30 is mostly for winter use. Diesels take 15w-40. The Ford diesels take 15 qts. and the Dodge diesels take 12 qts. There are two types of filters, the traditional spin-off filters and then there are the canister filters. The canister filters are usually on Mercedes and BMWs. The new VWs have them along with the 6 cylinder Mazda 6 also. Any questions? Lol.

Thats right, I forgot about that. Some Cavaliers, some Saturns, the Solstice, and all new Cadillacs take the canister filters.
