i have just changed the oil in my 1986.5 supra i put in 4 quarts of oil but it was right in the midle of the dip stik but today i checked the oil and it is at the add mark.
what should be the oil presure at idle??? how high should iut go at 3000-3500 rpm??? new to supras so i need to know this stuff, aske anything about beemers though. |
idle i believe it is 4.6 psi
and around 3000 to 3500 it should be between 36 and 72 psi your probably burning some oil, rings are worn, not a biggie really car probably still has a lot of power like mine does even though she burns oil. |

1. kingdiamond is correct, idle is 4.6psi.. we are high flow low pressure systems
2. if he was burning it bad it would be way more than a faint smoke now and then :P i would say it has a leak, possibly rear or front crank seals |
don't under estimate the little information you can find in the owners manual :D
|
what is psi (if it is dumb could u still answer please. im only 15)?
|
PSI = Pounds per Square Inch
Never a dumb question, better to ask and learn rather then try and fool people into believing you know more then you actually do. The more questions you ask the more you will learn. |
thx kingdiamond. what does pounds per Square Inch usually refer to?
|
If your asking the whole mathematical explaination as to how they figure out exactly, and how they came up with the measurement, i have no idea, but now that you mention it, it would be something nice to know. But as far as if your asking where else they use PSI, your fuel pressure, pressure in transmission, stuff like that.
|
so its basically everything about fuel.
