soldering gun?

I just bought a soldering gun to do some electrical wiring repair. i dont really have an idea on how to use it or what kind of solder should i buy. if someone can help me out with this it would be awesome thanks.

thanks that was a helpful but do i have to hold down the trigger for the tip to get hot??
