Default Blown Engine

Hi !

I don't know much about a car. Any input would be greatly appreciated.

I've 87 Toyota Supra v6 non-turbo. It seems I've just blown the engine.
I'm thinking of buying a used engine off of Ebay.

Are these used engine worth buying (TOYOTA SUPRA 3.0L ENGINE 7MGE (87-92), used engine on ebay range anywhere between $500 - $800?

Also, what should I expect to pay for the labor cost to replace the engine ?

Default Hrm...

Just wanted to let you know something - your engine is not V6, it's I6 (inline). And if you've blown it, go with the turbo engine now! =) I dunno labor costs as I don't even live in the USA, but bot the 7M-GE or the 7M-GTE should fit easily in your car, no modifications needs to be done so it's a fast swap and shouldn't be too expensive.

Yes your engine is a 7mg which is a inline 6 cylinder motor 2.8l. Labor cost for extraction and installation of motor you are talking some coin. I would guess something around 5grand.

Guys, lets lead this guy in the right direction. You have a 7m-ge, its a 3.0 liter Naturally Aspirated (non-turbo). Try to find a used JDM motor and have it installed for $1500+ or do it yourself. Make sure it is compression checked and have a leak down test done. Motor will be $350-$800, Install will be 1500+. Going turbo is not as simple as swaping the motor. You also need the correct harness, ecu, intercooler, piping etc... It can be done, but its more expensive.

Cool

if the engine is listed as a V6
the owners definition of a blown engine is probably off ..
more like blown head gasket

See what is wrong with the engine that you claim is "blown" maybe it will be easer or at least cheaper to fix. If not you can pick up a 7mge for around $500 on ebay. Parts for the car are not that expensive for a import and you can probobly get it put in for under $2000 if you shop around. If you shop around you can have everything done for 2.5 G's but for that amount of money everyone here would go with the turbo version of the engine you have now. 7M-GTE ,there is little or no price difference in the engine itself but you will need some piping ,intercooler and some minor goodies for the turbo swap. I am under the impression that you will be able to fix the existing engine for less money and time.

Give us more information about the cars condition
and have it check out so they can tell you what is really wrong.
Then figure out what you wanna do with the car.If you just want it to run it wont cost you that much to get it running.

This would be a simple swap ,but it still can run you anywhere from $1200-$5000 depending where you go how fast you need it done and what quality work will be put in it.

I live in Chicago and I can have that swap done for about a G if i look around but thats like getting a tatoo done in the back of an ally. Do you really want it done?
