I think u should go for it cuzz if u have a MK3 then hell yeah DO IT! A VR4 can be tuned up very well and has alot of potential....My friend Herm's has one and he worked on it for about 4 months and hes hitting 10 to 11 secs in the 1/4....but if ur trading an MK4 for a 3000 then thats a different story....I LOVE MK4's....but i heard 3000GT parts are more expensive than MK3's...but its up to u
