Your best bet would be to go and look through photos, and if you have the chance to go see a couple in person i would, and see what you like ther best, rather then relying on someone else's opinion. But i'm sure alot of people here could give you a lot of help as far as performance difference goes between the years, i don't think there really is much.

MK4 ALL THE WAY. BEST CAR EVER MADE

monkihead 07-09-2005 12:24 AM

i like the 80s mk3, but for what its worth mk4

KingDiamond 07-09-2005 03:53 PM

My vote is for the MKII much lighter then the MKIII and MKIV.

true, but track width is a little short with fender flares. it was harder for me to take tight corners in the mk2 than the mk3.

and altho i would love to turn this into a "what generation supra" flamewar the original question was put to "93-98" models LOL

and i don't know much at all bout the mk4 body changes/advantages/improvements so i can't really help

and just to add a little something
i'm a mk3 owner coz i want to be and i ain't a mk4 wannabe ;)

depends on what you are wanting with to do with it. I am still kinda learning and reading about the 7mgte and the 2jgzte engines.
whichs brings me to a point, did the 2jgzte (or tte) engines come stock in any supra's?
I like the looks of the mk4, the other ones just are to 80's futuristic for me. Guess that is why I sold my 87 vette to though. but as mentioned before, the mk whatever ones are lighter.

the year of a mkiv would be way down on my priority list....condition and mileage would be tops followed by my choice in transmissions...performance varies almost nil on tt mkiv's regardless of the year

Well....yes, performance is pretty much the same on all of them, BUT if I had the money (lol, which I don't, MK3 for me), I'd get a 6 speed targa top TT, and after....trying to remember the year, but once they went over to OBD2 computer system (EXTREMELY easy to pick up scanners for and see everything in real time on a computer). Cosmetics....well, a lot of people like the '98 tail lights better, but they're an easy swap.

Remember though that MK4 prices are high becuase everyone wants a car from a certain major movie...

boogie 5 07-19-2005 10:22 AM

the 1996 mkiv's were the first year of the odb II..although "that" movie certainly shed alot of light on the mkiv , i dare say that most of those who became consumed with the thought of owning one probably didn't have the 25 to 35K needed to make that dream come true

KingDiamond 07-19-2005 01:11 PM

I actually believe that 93 is listed as the quickest year for the mkiv don't know why, but it is.

that's interesting...where might i find that listed?

Poodles 07-21-2005 06:24 AM

Yeah, the whole problem with most of the testing is the driver and environment usually aren't the exact same as they where when they tested the year before or next, but looking at number they all fall within being way too fun to drive...
