It's easy to tell if it is factory or add-on. Look at the edge with the window partially cracked. If you see a clear 1/4" of window along the edge, it is an add-on. 95% is a violation for front windows in nearly every state. But, I think you can get away with it in many states if it is on the rear side and rear windows. I doubt any factory tint would be that dark for front side windows.
My '88 supra had add-on window tint that I had to scrape off. It was sun-baked and long lost it's optical clarity. But it was only about 75% or 80% |

when I said 95% I meant that only 5% of light is blocked out. so some would call it being tinted 5%. It's relatively clear. I'm just wondering how a cop behind me saw 5% window tint at 12:30am......

So it's your door windows, or your front windshield? If its the front window, were there any cars or street lamps in front of you when he pulled you over? If so then he saw the taillights of the vehicles in front of you and took a educated guess on that the window was tinted. If its the side windows I would think he was just looking to mess with someone and make a buck especially at 12:30am.
I know the police officers around me are basically out to get ya almost all the time, especially the new deputies, they are so gun ho they will pull you over for nothing and slap some b.s. on ya and send you on your way. lol. |
