Default plastic black canister on firewall

i was just wondering if anyone would know what the canister up against the firewall on the passanger side of a 2jz-ge motor is...i think it is connected to vaccumm lines but really i have absolutely no clue and occasionally when i turn my car off it makes a whirrring noise which im pretty sure i need 2 get checked out...can any1 please tell me what this is as this would be greatly appreciated?...excuse my ignorance

It's probably your charcoal cannister - could you post a picture so I can verify this?

cheers for that, is that 2 do with emissions? just wondering if it should be making any sounds either..

It's to filter the fumes from your gas tank (on hot days). If one of the vents/tubes is partially plugged, it might make sounds...

would there be anything wrong with taking it out and plugging up where it came from?

On hot days, the gas fumes have to go somewhere as they expand...they'll leak out from somewhere (e.g. through your gas cap?) and stink.

is there a safe way to do it? ive seen other motors with it off and thts a great place for my catch can

Although gas fumes are flammable, it's not really unsafe to remove. The gas fumes quickly get too diluted in air to be flammable/explosive. It's just stinky and emissions-unfriendly...
