9 second Supra?
Well i finally have the money to get my dream car, but just one question. What mods do i put in an MKIV to make it a 9 second car. please post the mods and what the final car's price, horse power, torque, estimated 1/4 mile time, est. 0-60 time, etc. would be.

Also, NB: Although a roll cage & other safety gear is desireable, and probably required at most tracks, I haven't included it because the car will (as per your only stated goal) run the 9s without these safety mods. |
i think that comes out to be $49400 WITHOUT the car. ehhhh that's a lot

Fwiw, about the least-modified Mkiv Supra I know of in the 9s, did so with a 100% bone-stock longblock and a fuel system, T72 turbo, ~75 shot of no2, cams, racing clutch, fmic, vpc+gforce modded ecu, 2-step rev limiter and bfg drag radials. The gentleman driving this setup was a well-known, naturally gifted & very experienced drag race driver. This is typically what I'd call a 10 second setup (for any moderately experienced drag racer) ... but note that effectively launching any turbo car with a 6spd is almost an 'art' rather than a science (i.e. it's not easy at all to learn to do). In theory, another less-expensive way into the 10s would be using a bpu++++ Mkiv Supra, a 'built' oem auto tranny (~$3,500), slicks and a huge direct-port shot of no2 (note: robust electronic controls and extensive tuning would be highly recommended to safely/reliably run that 'huge' shot of nos)... Lastly, note that in general, $50K in modifications to an Mkiv Supra really isn't that unusual. Imagine (for example) if we wanted to take the 9-second Mkiv Supra we built above and ALSO make it full NHRA-legal safety equipment AND show-ready too! Throw in a roll cage, 'chute, custom interior, custom sound system, widebody kit, high-end paint job, chroming and bling parts in the engine bay, etc. and we're easily deep into the 6 digits including the cost of the car ... anyone that has been to a national Supra meet (eg. Tx2K5 or SILV) has seen several Mkiv Supras 'done up' like this, with huge inve$tment$ in modification$. |
ok, thanks for yer suggestions :D i guess i am a fairly good driver ;) been usin my turbo ctr for around 5 years

It is not just about the horsepower but the driver.

In addition, I'd point out that although the driver's skill is a significant factor in drag racing (up to let's say 10%-25% of the time component), in roadracing the driver's skill is many times more important (probably closer to 50% of the time component). |
Why 2jz-gte?
After reading your post pwpana, and being a bit of an ametuer enthusiast, i was left wondering why you would fork out an extra 10k for a TT model when your putting in aftermarket parts to replace existing turbo, exhaust, etc.
Im sure there would be a short answer but as i myself am considering modding a supra id love to know as much information before i begin the project, thanks in advance ;) |

On the other hand, I agree that if you're planning to build a stripped down racecar that will be trailered to the dragstrip and it's equipped with fully 'built' and/or aftermarket parts, then you might as well start with a non-turbo, or even a salvage chassis and go from there... |
Yeah i thought it might go something along those lines, thanks for the reply mate :)

buy most parts from TRD. i just find it alot more reliable. most tC owners buy their superchargers from TRD as well as headers. get a cat-back exhaust, cold-air intake, just the basic needs to produce 50-100 hp gain =/
what else can i say w/o looking under the hood of your car. |

TRD uses aftermarket parts and puts their logo on them. For example, TRD struts are manufactured by KYB.

trd manufactures parts http://www.trdsource.com/toyota.asp type in the model (supra), year, and engine (turbo) then look down and you see a table. hope i didn't lose you already 'cuz we're almost done. at the right side of the table, you see a list of manufacturers. read it for yourself. trd actually makes much more but they rarely update their list. if you go to your local toyota dealership (supraftw) you can ask them there or you can just call them. as a matter of fact. trd does produce superchargers use the same site and look up tC's. all you gotta do is read magazines. or have friends. |
i dont know where you are getting these outrageous prices but for those kind of prices they better come with gold plating and a good blowjob
