I give up...

I did a rebuild because I thought I had a bhg....while the head was off it was machined and milled at a engine shop. Put the thing back together, timing was done by a mechanic, and I have cleared out all the errors.

The problem is that when it starts it dies right away unless I give it gas. Then it won't stay started unless I keep it above 2k rpms. Is there anyway I could have put something back together wrong to make this anomaly not stay idle but still run at higher rpm?

I have changed the fuel filter. There is fuel pressure because I cracked open a bolt to see if it was torqued right, and it was.
I checked the vacuum hoses and they are all routed correctly.
I have tried kicking the tires.
I have tried talking nice to it.

But nothing seems to be helping.....Anyone have any suggestions before I take it to the dealer and give them a bag of money? If anyone guesses the problem correctly I will buy them a steak dinner, no joke.

It's an 89 NA supra exterior white with blue interior if that helps.

Theres a idle control screw in/on the throttle body, check that to see if its there. Its on the opposite side of the oil breather lines facing the front of the car.

Right off I'm thinking fuel pump.
Fuel filter.

if the fuel pump is screwed, wouldnt it not start at all?

I thought about that after i posted and then thought fuel filter.

Yes. It wouldn't fire up if you weren't getting any gas.

My 91 has 2 filters.
One is in the tank and the other is under the body up under the rear seats.

I had a similair problem, my motor would sputter when started up and would die unless I kept it above 1700 RPMs... Check to make sure your vacuum lines aren't cracked and are routed correctly. I had two go to the wrong place, switched them around, and now she purrs at a good 700 RPMs, nice and strong.

Make sure that when you put the intake manifold back together you didnt get a bracket or something stuck between them because it causes a nasty vaccum leak. When you get it running like you said have someone give it gas and look to see if your exhaust manifold is glowing red that is a dead give away that it has a vaccum leak somewhere and it is running lean.

This happend to me, When i put on the exgaust manifold i didnt put the heat shield on and it melted the intake tube and put a hole in it. I didnt think about the small things. When i melted the tube, I threw about 100 buck at the car in parts and all it was, was a hole in the Intake tube. It could also be the TPS or the Massairflow sensor, make sure these are pluged in there easy to miss.

I had an Isuzu Imark that would only run if I was on the gas and it was the fuel pump.

I'm sorry I didn't see this sooner. The first thing I would check is the FC switch in the N/A AFM. Turbo models don't have this and it's usually not suggested, but I've seen them fail for a few people (unfortunately, usually after they'd spent a bunch of money on other things).

A couple other possibilities are timing (yup, still a possibility) physical or ignition, TPS IDL switch, fuel pump, fuel pump relay and/or resistor pack, clogged ISC or dead stepper motor in the ISC, bad alternator (try charging the battery and see if the car will idle at least for a while with a full battery), and lastly, a bad ignitor.
