basically look at $1000.. for head & block work, new gasket, new bolts, water pump, radiator cap, thermostat etc etc
not too sure on the labour side tho and $1000 for steering  wtf... theres something wrong there... what's wrong with your powersteering? oh and waterpump line???? there isn't a water pump line as such... just the water galleries in the block & head it seems your "mechanic" is talking about the water lines going "around" the block and feeding the heater core etc unfortunately that is a pain to get to for repairs.. but you need to find out if that has a small hole from rusting out or if its just the gasket do you know if it's leaking on the back of the thermostat housing or what? can you possibly tell me exactly what location it is leaking? did your car overheat? how badly?
