Default new problem

with the head off every thing looks good, so when I tried to turn the engine over with the head off the first and the last pistons was not moving. so I sprayed some wd-40 on them and let them sit, the first one started moving with the others, so I looked at the last piston and used a piece of wood and pushed down gently and it moved all the way down with no problem, and when I turned it over it would just sit at the bottom, I know pistons dont move freely like that last one did. and there seems to be no damage under neith the car, so I wanted to ask if a piston connecting rod could throw out and look like it did no damage looking at the block, but could have inside the block, and if this is the case could I rebuild the block, or get a new used one. If any one knows how much a block could range from at a junk yard please write back with some prices just in case

A couple things could cause a piston to move freely like that... none of them are really good. A broken rod, broken wrist pin (although in this case the rod would still push the piston back up), broken cap screws. And yes you can break a rod without it going through the block.

As for how rebuildable it may be, you won't know until you open up the bottom end.

Junkyard engines can cost you anything from $100 to $500. That really depends on the yard and if they know anything about engines.

I bought my 7MGE (my old block was cracked)from a japan import place 40,000 miles on it, 4 month warranty, or 4000 miles. Complete engine and accessories for $913.
