You definitley want him to send you any pics he has of the engine bay inside and out. Have him show you the flaws and then multiply that x's 10 and you have your worst case scenario. 4.5k Sounds high to me but he did list many extras.
It's a targa top so 3.5k max bet. Haggle with him. Looks like he's only trying to pocket a grand on the deal to me. Just get more pics and make sure it runs. The fact that it's parked in a handicap space may elude to it runs but it could be dead at his work place as well. Hard to say. As for your test drive...., these cars can be 100 miles from throwing a clutch or a head gasket. Even when these autos' are ill they hide it by driving so well. If you aren't a mechanic..., you will be if you buy this auto. This could be a good car. A cali car at that he is right by all of the after market parts houses. Good Luck. |

You think $4,500 is cheap?! I think thats pricey. How many miles on it? And if you talk to the owner ask him when the head gasket was replaced and ask him if he used ARP hardware. If he doesn't know what you are talking about then its a safe bet that it is leaking. All 7M factory torqued head gaskets leak, it just depends how hard the car was driven that determines how bad it does leak. It's not a question of IF its going to finally go, its WHEN.
I paid $2,500 for my rust-free hard top 87 turbo 5spd with new paint that needed nothing. Head gasket lasted 1,500 miles with me behind the wheel. But the overflow never worked since the day I bought it until I replaced the head gasket, so I knew it was on its way. I also did a block test the week I got it and the blue fluid turned green (yellow is a definite combustion leak) but green is halfway to yellow so, again, it was on its way. Unless you want the "luxury" of replacing the head gasket, I'd look for a supra that has a new head gasket with ARP bolts and all the receipts and paperwork from the machine shop the head was machined at. Pictures of the rebuild wouldn't hurt either. Thats why I fully documented my head gasket replacement, when I do sell it there won't be a shadow of a doubt that I'm not bullshitting when I say its been replaced. Because anybody can just say "Yep! Head gasket was replaced!"...... I'd say, Prove it. |

Just some fyi...., but the front lip spoiler you can see is cracked on the driver side corner. That lip is a toyota only part and they want $225.00 for one.
Nothing hurts worse than spending big bucks on plastic parts. Ask about the fan shroud. Because it's toyota only at $125.00 Tail lights cracked??? $400.00 for the pair aftermarket and oem. Then when you are working on it..., toyota has changed or upgraded some of the parts and you have to work with their upgrades, and they won't answer you on anything as to why this part or that has an extra piggy back or a 12 volt plug in. |
