It's and early sign of a BHG.

Along with these symptoms:

-Milky oil cap.
-Milky dipstick.
-Coolant loss.
-Steam out of exhaust.
-Watery Oil.

Try checking for these^ symptoms.

First I would try pressure testing the cooling system. You can have a shop do it or you can buy a pressure tester (not cheap). Any external leak will be evident with the system under pressure. System should hold 15 psi without dropping more than 1 psi.

If that checks out ok (like it did in my car with a BHG) then you could try doing a block test. Cheaper than a pressure tester about $50. Will tell you if there is exhaust gas in the cooling system meaning you have a blown head gasket, cracked cylinder head, cracked cylinder or cracked block. If the fluid even hints at turning from blue to yellow (like green) thats bad.

You will find out if your head gasket is bad with these tests. My opinion is you just have an external coolant leak, usually these cars like to top off and blow coolant out of the overflow bottle along with random overheating when the head gasket is bad.

Good luck!

if you over fill the resivor and the radiator with coolent it boils it out and the resivor has a drain for the purpose, mine radiator leaks coolant throught the drain plug i wouldnt worry to much about it... and if your light comes on fill it up probly the reason they think this bull crap about the bhg is cause they didnt keep the engine cool it over heated and blow the gasket so just keep the coolant in it look for leaks mines a slow leak at the plug

"the reason they think this bull crap about the bhg is cause they didnt keep the engine cool it over heated and blow the gasket"

No the reason we think this bull crap about the bhg is because Toyota's factory head torque specs are too low causing the head bolts to stretch therefore blowing the head gasket. They don't actually "blow" they leak. Coolant just goes under/over the gasket to the nearest opening, usually the cylinder, sometimes the oil passage.

I never ran my engine without coolant in it and the gasket still went. I was actually anal about the coolant level, checking it everyday, every single day. We should start calling it BHB for blown head bolts because that is why the head gasket "fails" to seal anymore.

It's a known fact that the factory torque specs for the head bolts are too low. If your factory head gasket hasn't failed yet, oh don't you worry it will. It's not if, its when.

ya so everyone go torque their headbolts down to 72ft/lbs (for stock bolts/headgasket). youll be safe then.
