hey my girlfriend's 89 won't move i think her clutch is gone but i'm not sure we are selling the car right now and i want to know how hard is it to fix this compared to the manual tranny because i can do manual fine but auto i don't know about because of the extra parts like torque converter also would i need a new torque converter and how much owuld these parts be? i just need an oem swap so we can get more money for the car rather than just like 700

no man, what he means is it doesnt makesense what ur saying. there is no clutch in automatic automobiles, only in standard ones.

mizuboi 12-13-2006 11:37 AM

thats the stuff i need to know like what it takes for a automatic transmission to slip like the engine is fine but there is no movement in teh car so i need to konw what to replace or fix in an automatic so i'm guessing its a torqueconverter then?

supraman121 12-13-2006 12:58 PM

Well first of all what happened do you no for a fact? Was it slipping? does the car start? maybe it isnt the transmission try pushing and holding the shift knobe up foward if heard of somepoeple have a problem starting there autos and this would make the car start. But if you think it is they tranny you can probly pick one up at autozone or somthing for like less then a grand then you get the core charge or just rebuild the one you got with will got you like 2000 dallors.

And as far as i no automatics have clutches to you just dont engage them the car does it on its own

I would defenitly tow it to a transmission shop before just selling it it might be an easy fix

I am confused too. Does the car have a manual or automatic transmission? Sounds like it might have a manual from the parts description, but then you ask about an automatic? Which is it? And yes the auto does have clutches but different types and they are activated differently.

Let us know.

i honestly don't see what is so confusing

1. 1989 non turbo
2. automatic transmission
3. Engine starts and runs strong
4. transmission won't move the car

why won't the car move?

it has something to do with the transmission but i don't know what

(important) i only know how to work on MANUAL transmissions

(important) i have no idea how an AUTOMATIC transmissions and what would cause the whole car not to move if the engine is running but i hit the gas and it only revs and won't move but it is in drive

none of the gears work

supraman121 12-14-2006 11:59 AM

Dosent it back up or anything? Maybe linkage slipped out? other then that the onlything i can say is let a professional take a look at it, atleast then you will know the whole story.

yes they do have clutches

or better none as clutch band?
check automatic filter
