Default 87 and 89 MkIII parts swap question

My son's 87 was damaged in a storm and needs a new hatch, rear bumper cover and supports. I found an 89 near twin, in great condiiton, bad engine, good price. Both are non turbos, but the 87 has an automatic while the 89 has a 5 speed. Since I have both complete cars, can anyone tell me if there are any unforseen problems in swapping the 5 speed into the 87?

I expect to have lots of 89 silver/gray Supra parts in a month or so if anyone is interested.

If you're just transfering the engine, I don't forsee any problems, as all the electronics you'll be using are already in the 89. But you might get a 2nd opinion on that, I'm not tremendously mechanically inclined.

Thanks. I'm not swapping the engines, just the transmissions so that the 87 gets the 5 speed. Brings up a good question, though, whether the 87 ECU would handle the 5 sp, and if the 89 ECU would work with the 87 engine.

If thats the case, you'll need to pull all the clutch parts, clutch master cylinder, pedal, actuator, etc.. You'll also need to pull the ECU as well as the tach PCB if you want the tachometer to work properly. I know there's more to it than this, but I can't think of it off the top of my head...

Is the Tach PCB stand alone or does it share circuits with other gauges?

some peaple say that the auto ecu works with the manual trans.
i pretty sure u can use the 89 ecu for the 87ecu just as long as there both turbo cars or both non turbo.
most of the parts should work fine.

im not sure what that means but what im doing is getting the entire cluster out of a manual car and putting it in my car other wise you have to do some soldering on the auto cluster.

nevermind on that, N/A to N/A should be fine, it was N/A to Turbo

bolt up all manual parts, bypass neutral start switch and rewire reverse lights

and i dunno if usdm are the same but the ma70's here are predrilled for everything including bolting in lhd stuff lol

then
