I need help! My supra idles rough at cold starts...=(

1991 Toyota supra turbo
5 speed

One morning, my supra started idling funny. I remember turning it on. The temp gauge shows Cold and as I was driving it. At first, it runs good until it started warming up. As soon as I came to a stop, the engine started idling funny and at times, it will die (Only if I was to put it in neutral) When in gear, it runs but kind of wierd. I shut the car down for about 3-5 minutes. After that, I started it up and took it for a test run. Amazingly, it ran fine again. It does this every morning or every COLD start. ???? What's going on? I really want to fix this problem and I'm calling out to all Supra owners and fans to really help me. Please help me for I am a supra fan in need. Thankyou.

looks like a maladjusted or bad throttle position sensor. check your error codes, you'll probably get a 41 or 51. 41 youll have to adjust it using a multimeter, 51 youll need a new one. very easy job to do. the TPS can make the world a difference. also make sure you dont have any air leaks.

Thanks. I'll give it a shot to see what happens.

Yes, check yout tps. It could also be something like bad plugs too. Mine had a problem like that, And all i did was replace the stock idle adjustment with a home depot bolt with a nut on each end. The idle screw was moving around nad making my car not want to run.

Where is the stock idle adjustment?

Have your friend move the gas pedal, look at the throttle body. The part that moves, there is a crappy screw in there with a slot cut into it for a screw driver. Take it out, Goto home depot, Get a stainless steel one out of the hardware section, and get a few nuts and lock washers. It will never move again lol. Make sure you get the bolt with the hex head too, not the screw driver kind.

I'm trying that right now! I'll let you know by tomorrow! Thanks!
