Exclamation quick help, AFM related

OK, my stupid a$$ decided that the afm was wicked dirty, it was covered in oil so I cleaned it off, now when I start the car it runs but the check engine light comes on, when I get above 2000rpms, it goes off, then I let off the gas, it comes back on. It starts with no problem, after a couple seconds the check engine light comes on though, WTF?? I pulled the code and it is 31 open or short circuit in afm signal. maybe the wiring?? forgot to mention its an 1989 Supra Turbo

Stupid question but did u plug the afm back in? Did you get the sensor wet while u were cleaning it? Is everything clamped back down tightly?

It sounds like its not plugged in or the sensor went bad tho.

I sprayed the sucker down with parts cleaner, just the sensor, what kills me is how the check engine light goes off after 2000rpms, but comes on when I let off the gas..

Well the ecu make a CEL when the output from it is abnormal. If you look inside it, It works like a mechanical speed control from an rc car, As it opens, An arm moves across different contacts. If you only got the idle/low rpm part wet or damaged, Once you rev it up the ecu sees that its fine. I would say just open it up and let it dry. The afms generally dont like being cleaned, But it shouldnt be that bad if it still works. It would have to be plugged in, The car will not even run for more than a few puts if the afm is unplugged. Goodluck with the supra thou!
