Default 1987 Toyota Supra Twin Cam Turbo

Hello.

Well, I got myself a 1987 Toyota Supra Turbo.

The progress on it is that the parts are being cleaned. The head is taking the most time and I found a crack in the head gasket so I need to replace that for around 60 dollars.

Also, I am cleaning things with steel wool so if anyone wanted to know how to get things real clean, that’s what you need.

If anyone wants any picture, let me know and I will post them. The whole car needs restored really so we'll see where the look of it goes. I am keeping the original motor though.

Just a question but does anyone know how to improve how easy it is to turn the wheel? I put some transmission fluid in the area (which is what you are supposed to use) and it helped a bit but it still feels like it needs two hands to steer with.

Thank you.

*Edit*

I think I posted this in the wrong section so please move it if it is.

Sorry about this one.

Default Could be very simple

If the pump does not howl or squeel when you turn then your pump is probably ok. I had the same problem you described with my mkII. The power steering pump on the mkIII is the same I'm guessing, haven't ever compaired them. I replaced the pump, lines and the rack and still had the problem. There was only 1 part I did not replace, the fluid reservor. The problem was the screen/fliter in the bottom of the res. Take a small flat screw driver and scrape the screen, if a bunch of thick tar like crap comes out on the tip of the screw driver then that might be the problem. If you get a bunch of crap on the screw driver you have to pull the res off and clean the screen/filter, it does not come out (or at least mine didn't) I took off the res, scraped both sides lightly with the screw driver, took some degreaser blasted the crap out of it and then used an air hose to get all the degreaser out and the leftover chunks of crap out, blow through it both ways, bottom to top, top to bottom. I spent $500 and only needed to spend $3.99 on a can of degreaser and use about an hour of my time.

Hello.

Well, I'm not to sure why it has the bad steering problem but the more time I spend working on it, the more I will know why it is happening.

I plan to desgrease the motor and get the head flattened soon so hopefully everything will clean up and I can see things a bit better.

Like I said, if anyone wants some pictures, let me know.

Thank you.
