Default Emissions?

Hi I just moved to NorCal and have to deal with emissions. I currently own a 89 mkiii with a JDM 7mgte. Japan has no emissions so the motor didnt come with all the emission gooddies; ie catch can, VSV, EGR and what not. Is it easy to install so I can make smog? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

So, you are registering it here in Calif for the first time???

From Japan??? Yes?? then you will have to go to the local state ref to get them to check it over and approve it to smog. It would be called a 'brown market' car. (car was not made to import to US)

Yes, they look under the hood in Calif. Everything must be in place and working, and the tailpipe #s below the max limit.

Default whehe

Japan just happens to have some of the most stringent emisions laws on the planet. They do not screw around. If your car doesn't pass emissions there it gets retired and isn't allowed on the road anymore. Most vehicles that pass U.S. standards would fail by Japanese standards and wouldn't be allowed on the road at all. So yes they do have emissions but the testing is different than in the U.S. Japans are mainly based on low speed operation like city driving whereas the USA mostly based on high speed driving. I livied there for 8 years and can attest to that kind of driving. Thats why public transportation is so good over there.
