For the "won't stay in first" gear, open up the boot and remove the other rubber boots and see how the shifter fits into the rod end. There is a little plastic cap that goes onto the bottom of the shifter which sits in the rod end of the transmission. That rod end also has a bearing pressed into it which could be worn or missing. If there is any sloppiness in the shifter then the parts I just mentioned will be suspect. If its just the plastic cap then thats an easy fix. The rod end bearing is another matter. I had to have a custom made piece that dropped in instead of the bearing which would require tearing down the transmission and replacing the rod with the pressed in bearing.
For the vibration your center bearing on the drive shaft is probably shot or the universals but more likely the center bearing. When mine went it was slapping on the floorpan when I accelerated. |
