Default stiff gas pedal?

I've been wondering about this for a while now. My gas pedal is a lot stiffer than any other car I have ever driven. By this I mean when I press down on the gas it seems there is a lot of resistance so I have to press harder in order to accelerate. I was wondering if this is just how the Supra are built or if there is a problem with my pedal/accelerator? Thanks!

The supras gas pedals are cable driven. Whereas on newer cars, the gas pedals are electronically driven. Which is why there is a delay when you hit the gas on newer cars.

So anyway, the supra pedals are not normally stiff. You can spray some silicone at all the pivot points. You may want to pull the cable out and spray silicone down into it while pulling/pushing it, to work the lube into it.

Many times a cable get worn internally, and must be replaced. It should not be too expensive.

Thanks for the help! How would I know if my cable needs to be replaced? Is it something that I could do myself or should I take it to a shop? Thanks!

You can do it. Try disconnecting the end at the throttle body, then have a friend hold the end while you step on the pedal. Is it very stiff?? It should feel very free.

You can take the cable out, then check by hand. It should feel (slide) freely. Spray with silicone inside it, and work it in/out, it should get freer.

Put it all back together and try it.

If it feels stiff, get a new one.
