I'm working on a friends 87 supra and we had to unplug the AFM to get it so that he can even drive it. According to his Haynes manual I checked the AFM with an Ohm meter and it tested bad. He bought a used AFM on the internet and I tested it and it was bad also even though the seller said it was known good. The seller also says that you can't test the AFM and that if we did test it with an Ohm meter that we probably broke it since we put it on the car and we had the same problem as with the original AFM.

So I have several questions:
  • Can you test the 87 five prong AFM?
  • If you can test it then how do I do it?
  • Has anyone ever heard of testing a AFM with a digital Ohm meter (not a volt meter) and damaging it?
  • Is it even possible to damage an electronic part by using a digital ohm meter on it?
  • MOST IMPORTANT: What is the least expensive way to replace the stock AFM? I've seen mention of a Lexis AFM swap.
Please realize that I don't have hardly any experience with this particular model car but have lots of aftermarket engine modification experience. Links and details would be greatly appreciated. Also, the owner of the Supra is not interested in power, I've never seen him boost the turbo on this car and when he had me test it before the AFM problem he just about freaked when I was driving it and hit 4K rpm and ~5psi on the turbo before shifting. This guy drives like he is driving Donald Trump in a stretch limo. He's also cheap, but he does want this AFM problem fixed.
