Default 7M-GTE Owners CT-26 Turbo Survey

I brought about this thread because I purchased a rebuilt CT-26 off of eBay. My item hasn't arrived for over a month and the seller has not contacted me in a long while. I was thinking about getting a refund and using the turbo I have now that has 82,xxx miles on it. I have not measured play or had a chance to look at the impellers yet. Reliability was my main concern when I made that purchase. I want to see how many owners are still running their stock turbo without a rebuild. I am also wondering if I should be concerned about a rebuild soon regardless if the turbo seems good.

my car had 120k on when i got it, i assumed the turbo was original, i killed it when i upped the boost to 12psi, then bought used on off ebay (60k)and abruptly killed that one shortly after at 12+psi.....
now im runing a rebulit upgraded to larger wheel and its still alive so far.. i bounce this one off 14psi no worries..

on another forum i read one guy had 220k on his, till he upped the boost to 10+
now its doing the turbo death whine...

get your refund before its too late and you have no recourse..

Scary thought that upping the boost kills older turbos. I'm giving the seller the benefit of the doubt. His last straw shall be drawn this weekend.

yeah im not saying it was the boost that killed them, It might have just been their time, but that was the conclusion that i came too..

external waistgate is just like the waistgate in the stock ct26 except its bolted to the exhaust and made for turbos without internal waistgates and vents exhaust before the turbo.

sounds like a dual port actuator? one port will open the waistgate when boost is applied once it overcomes the spring pressure.., the other usually has a air regulator so you can add pressure to the back side of the diaphram to keep the waistgate closed longer, which will achieve more boost..

here is my description from another forum..
i use a dual port actuator and a "mini air regulator $15 ", i replaced the stock 100 psi spring in the regulator with a 30+- lbs spring (freebie) same size just thinner /weaker so it is less sensitive ..

so 1 turn equals about 1lbs of boost instead of 1/2 turn being 10 lbs.. it is a bit progressive ...but works slick

this lets me add pressure to the back side of the waist gate actuator and keep the swing valve closed longer for more boost on top of the 7.5 lbs spring of the actuator..

i added in a air switch {flow, or no flow} between the regulator and the backside of the actuator. This so i can keep the regulator set at higher boost and turn the air switch to stop flow so its just the 7.5 lbs of boost off the actuator spring... nice for first and second gears launches where higher boost will break tires loose..3rd gear flick the switch and your at full boost..

if you dont have a dual port , they make some nice bleeder valves but they should be mounted under the hood i think???. short as possible.. and there like 25$ on ebay.. that's my manual controller.. EVERY THING ELSE IS JUST A BLEEDER...
