Default 1JZ non VVTi vs VVTi

Hey guys, I checked around and couldn't really find anything on this. Besides the VVTi, are there any other major differences between the 2 1JZ type engines? I saw a few pics and it kind of looks like the VVTi is a single turbo as opposed to the twin turbo non VVTi. Are there any benefits/disadvantages of either engine? Any help would be very helpful and much appreciated. Thanks.

i dont know much about the 2 and 1j but i know that on the 2j most people like the vvti becuase its easier to tune. i would imagine that both are the same except for some electronics diffrences possibly a diffrent head's thats all i can imagine and possibly less waight since 1 turbo is lighter than 2, maby the mk4 guys would know more

Thanks man. I was able to read up on some recommended threads after I posted this. I found out that the VVTi also has a partial Drive By Wire (DBW). I would imagine that there is some more wiring for that. Also, you get torque a lot sooner (2400rpm 3400 or something like that). The VVTi are a little cheaper also, since no one wants to deal with the added headaches. One other thing (but I'm sure there is more), the exhaust manifold has a different bit pattern and port pattern. Makes it hard to get an aftermarket manifold that fits.

The 1jz vvti has a intake cam that changes with Rpms when the nonvvti doesn't but has two turbo instead. They r both 2.5liters. I think the nonvvti uses a map sensor and the vvti still uses the afm. Same goes for the 2jz but that is a 3.0 liter and both vvti and non vvti have 2 turbos

I heard that it is harder to get parts for the VVTi. Are they that different that the internals and the most of the sensors are not interchangeble?

Yes these parts are very hard to attain. I searched them for 2 months and finally one of my friend arranged them

I've been speaking with Lonnie Benson over at SupraStore.com and between them, Titan and someone else, everything is available for the VVti engine and not difficult to get anymore. So I am going VVTi. 3 reasons, builds torque way earlier, already single turbo, and the Valve cover looks better, lol.
