doesent mean its not a good bottom end,if i had 10k lying around i would make a1000hp 7mgte but its just not as easy as the 2j( ill give you that both have equal potental just 2j is 3/4 less head ackes and easier) im not going into which is better disscusion im just saying if it had vvti it would be up to par but thats my opinion, and on the 7MGE i got to agree there, its not very compitent i wouldent want one

on this i have to agree and dissagre i love the front end of the mk3 pop up head lights (for the win) and it just looks sleaker and sexier the rear end is terrible, i would like to see the mk4's rear end on my mk3.

if i ever owned a mk4 i would instantly put a good body kit onto it becuase whith out it the front looks terrible( to bubbly imo) now whith the right body kit hands down its beutiful the sides and rear i would leave factory. unless i went full race body like the castrol supra( that is moveing art!!!)

your 1000hp 7mgte wouldnt last a day...
if money was an option why not just stay within the 300hp range. if you want more, go for a better engine...
4 cylinders=gas efficient
6 cylinders=power and gas efficiency
8 cylinders=POWER
some v8's dont weigh much more than a 7m especially when there all aluminum.

agreed. i like the mk3 front.
I've seen it... It's HORRIBLE. The MKIII may be well served by a redesigned ass but the MKIV's is not even a decent fit. The lines are completely wrong the curves are too many and the highlights all in the wrong place. It is a terrible fit on the MKIII, IMHO.

yah i could see how a mk4 rear end just wouldent quite look right, a redisighn would be awsome tho. the bumper is nice but the tail lights are way to hyper 80's. the 89 linked tail lights are acceptable i wouldent mind them at all but they could still be better ( i dont like my 87's lights)

inform me what makes the 7m much less reliable. both are good motors, yes one is much older than the other but i still belive toyota desighned a good motor. if your pushing 1000hp nothing besides the block is gona be stock( MABY a crank but even then i wouldent go stock at thoes power levels) whats there to not be reliable. im not trying to start a 7m vs 2j disscusion just let me hear your opinion on it

i know droping an ls3 into anything will make it considerbly faster but i dont quite like that, i like straight motors, almost every car iv had has had one, my volvo the supra my cbr1000 my pick up, iv also had a few v6's and 8's but i like straight motors i belive in there performance characterisitcs, dont get me wrong i love a large displacment v8 as much as the next guy but i like my 16 a bit better

There are people pushing big numbers with the 7m

Would it be my choice?

Look at 7mpowa.

i belive reliability is a term not very specific, it relies on many variables motor condison, miles, oil changes, alot of other stuff. look at the bmw 2002 turbo i would consider that a unreliable motor becuase it has facts that show it would run like a champ if you fixed it every day, i have NEVER seen an unreliable toyota motor( some might be desighned in wierd ways yes) every toyota iv owned and worked on has lived to be about 250k miles at least. i know the 7mgte wasent built to be a full race motor so i dont expect it to be worry free at 1000hp but i bet the 2j wasent eather, any thing can be built to be reliable and fast for the correct fee( considering it isent compleat junk desighn to start whith)

( i would like a 2j in mine just because parts are much more common)

nothing wrong with a 7m but i t was only designed to push so much power and hold so much compression. there is just alot of things not designed to hold the rpms and power. lets start with the rods. ive seen alot of stretched rod bolts and bearing failures in stock 7m engines.
all im saying is why not start with an engine that was already designed to hold a higher power output.
agreed on the fact that inline engines are good. ive had many myself. but my 5mge and 7mge's that i have had use more fuel and make less power than most of the v8s ive had.
i just no longer see the point.

Look at 7mpowa.
ask what it cost them. compared to a v8 with a intake and carb. or ITB's

first off WHO in the right mind would build a 1000hp motor and use stock rods?, i belive the 7m and the 2j can easily hold 1000hp whith the right owner and builder but neither of them where purpose built for this kind of performanc.

of couasre the straigh 6 3000cc motor will need more gas and abit less power than an american v8. lets see im not an american expert( far from it) but isent even the smallest v8 at least 5000cc, when you start whith a high power big bore motor u dont really need much to get 1000hp, now look at the world of formula one they are running 3,000cc motors that push out well over 1000hp from this engine(could go even higher if they dident have restrictons on rpms and power), this can be done becuase they spin such high rpm's. any one can cram a ls2, super charge it and make 1000hp big whoop(never thought i would say that) there 6000'cc its not hard to make that much power if the motor is massive. it takes a real builder to make a reliable small displacment motor push as much as a bigger one.
