Put in a 3S-GTE and get the weight BEHIND the front wheels.
![]() Yes, the JZ's are very robust. The JZs and the 3Ss still rank at the top of Toyota's flagship engines. Not saying they're still #1 but they're still hanging with the newcomers. In my opinion the 3S is still yet to be beat (of course it's pretty much a 2JZ with 2 less cylinders). And yes, one could argue that the 2JZ hasn't been beat if for no other reason than because they stopped building i6s.

I've also seen a 1jz out of the 89-92 mk3 was a pretty straight forward swap

yea I've heard the same things bout 1j's and I more for a higher faster rev I know I've read shimming the waste gate on a 7mgte can give u significantly more power but more mods needed to push more boost out of 7mgte than in a 1j

I was kidding, but Top Secret put a 720RWHP 3S-GTE into a MKIV a while back. Some guy got arrested for one in Australia... doing ~190MPH (not KPH) in one too. I think it was the same guy who got banned from England for doing the same thing in a RB26 equipped MKIV there. Or was it that the Australia effort was thwarted and the England one got arrested and banished? I dunno... both were 4cylinder monsters.
I REALLY don't understand the whole wanting to track a fatass Supra on anything but a drag strip though.

well I'm not 100% on that but many posts and things I've seen state that the 1j is a tougher motor(can handle more boost from factory) and being a only Japanese produced motor they tend to keep the beer things for themselves such as rb20,25,26 and sr20 and so on.... I have seem built 7mgte's that can make 1000hp but as far as hear say goes 1j's can make it easier(more expensive) of course but this is my project car not my daily so I'm willing to put time to build it right

Yes, i think you're right... It was Smokey in the UK, probably down under too. The Southern hemisphere incident may have actually been in NZ.
I'm not trying to argue over which is better, at 20+ years of age it's a shit idea to drop either straight in and expect it to last. My point is that 400hp is easy for either engine (and reliably) and as you should rebuild either it's probably rhe wiser choice to use what you already have and save upward of $2000 for other stuff... Like a better oil cooling system and more efficient turbo or forged internals... And so on.
