well...theres a gasket...lol so gasket could have gone crappy. Or the 6-8 or 10 bolts could be somehow loose.... Why dont u just take off the egr plate, and block them off...thats wat i did, u dont need it and it will make the temp across 5th & 6th cylinders not be real high.

The system does dick to the temps across 5 and 6 and it's entire purpose is to REDUCE combustion cylinder temps which you'll find are key to better performance, reducing ping and better gas mileage. There's no reason to remove the system beyond laziness and ignorance short of a track dedicated vehicle where swift rebuilds are a must and a common occurrence.

Additionally, it's only active at low-medium loads... There's definitely not a heat issue if there's nothing running through the EGR cooler when the loads are high.

Yeah, definitely can't delete any smog components living in CA. As stated earlier, check the gasket and bolts. If those all check out, inspect the valve and other parts for cracks. While you're there, make sure your vacuum lines are in good shape and routed properly; they likely wouldn't create the problem you're having, but a properly functioning egr system will help your fuel economy and help you on your next smog test.

In the future, please take a few more seconds when creating your posts to be more descriptive with your questions; the more info we receive, the better we will be able to help you.

im gonna bring this thread back for a moment.. The egr cooler located on the back of the block. How ez is it to put a new gasket in. Is there anything special to removing it? Is removing, perhaps giving it a nice wipe and installing a new gasket the only things your able to do to this piece? Thanks

I redid mine with the head off and out of the car. But from what I remember the bolts required a decent bit of force to break loose as well as the gasket had to be scraped off.
