The seal there isn't meant to do more than retain the dipstick and not hold in much more than vapor. How much oil are we talking about anyway? It takes a lot of pressure to push oil up 16+" of 1/4" pipe and past even a weak plug.
Or is this leaking at the base of the dipstick tube?

Ok.... sorry. Out of the dipstick tube makes me think it's getting pushed all the way up and our of the dipstick tube. The GTE dipstick tube is two parts (as you may already know). From what I recall (and from looking at the EPC) the only o-ring is in the middle union. The lower portion I believe is press fit and can be tapped in with a wood block and a hammer. I can't recall any compression nut that retains it further and there isn't any listed in the parts catalog.

Grab a towel and a flashlight and you tell me. There are three places it can leak from: Where it's pressed into the block, at the middle union (where there is an O-ring), or the very end of the dipstick tube.
