Custom Intake Q
 

I want to upgrade my air intake system and i was just wondering if anyone would make a suggestion as to what to do for it. i read about ppl putting on a k&N filter all the time. But i want to know if its possible to run a hard pipe. Even though that would seem kinda huge. Also i replaced my head gasket. new stock one with ARP bolts torqued to 90fp. I read somewhere that i needed to retorque them after 1000 miles. True or false?

well that depends. are you a turbo or non turbo?
If your running n/a then no, leave it be. gte is another story. the stock air box works perfectly fine. and if you go hard piping your engine bay and put this huge air filter smack dab in the middle of it, you better have a way of keeping the hot air out of it. Otherwise your loosing hp. Read this

i have a 7mgte turbo. I have also heard about what the article was saying on just sucking in hotter air yes. Thats why i was wondering if anyone had thier own experience with hard pipe. If i ran hard pipe then i could mount the filter else where. What do other people to for an intake?

this topic has been beaten to death. with the consensus being you will probably see no real gains unless you make a true CAI. which is harder to do then it looks. Research on that and you might make it out of here alive..
I'm no expert on this, so I'm not going to pretend to be. Altho, I truly believe that if you run some piping behind your bumper above your fog light you will be better off then just leaving it in your engine bay. I have a buddy with a 1jz and a huge filter right in the bay. I go, "hey man stop sucking up all that hot air." to which he reply's, "dude my engine runs soo cool, its all good." I just go ok? and leave it at that. He does have everything on the hot side wrapped but still.

ok well ill do more research on it but it sounds like im just going to put the stock box back on
