Unhappy money pit

Got around to checking the exhaust. The cat had been removed by a previous owner and very cheap headers installed. The cheap crap that JC Whitney sells at discount. Well got him up and the air, looked ok but was leaking at the connections. Want my guy to be quiet and not load err loud started doing some gentle tapping on the pipes. The pipe where the Cat should be located just fell apart. Then started going to the rear of the car, ah the exhaust just sort of fell apart. Need to replace from the head clear back to the rear of the car.
Wonders why it did not fall apart on the first bump? Now he is real loud with only the cheap headers remaining. Tell me how else I can frack up? only wanted the cat to pass inspection. Will take 2 weeks to get the new parts, my original parts fetish gets me again. Close to 1.9k from the front to rear
My question was what was keeping it tougher? Almost got hit by the resonator and then the muffler as they fell.

You mean you're paying $1900 for the full cat back? You do know that you can get a system just as good as the stock setup made for you at a shop for less... right? I hate loud systems but I still got an upgraded 2.5" exhaust with straight flowing muffler and resonator for only around $600... including the cost of the welding and pipe bends.

As for why it stayed together from bumps on the road but came apart when you were smacking it with a wrench... Well, on the car the road noise is dampened by a large number of things: Springs, dampers, suspension bushings, motor mounts... versus getting directly hit with a rubber mallet. Try this: Replace the handle of a rubber mallet with 3' of garden hose and get a second mallet which is solid steel with a wood or fiberglass handle. Now, swinging very slowly, hit yourself over the head with each.... make sure you do each with the same speed. Which hurts more? LOL! Thanks, I needed to go through that.

Not quite 1900 and it is the exhaust manifold, front pipe, cat, rear assembly including the resonator and muffler. Oh there was a cat on him, was hiding, swore I looked carefully. The cat was damaged inside and appeared to be clogged to a certain degree.
Oh he is quite loud running only the headers, it is all headed for the recycle bin

I'll post here where it is more relivant. But http://www.magauto.com/oem-toyota-pa...ts-toyota.html sells oem toyota parts at discount. I've ordered from them several times with no problem. And Conicelli is also good for discounts also. http://www.trademotion.com/partlocat...cfm?siteid=840
