Ok, gotcha. They were actually rubber coated and had a lip which created a sealing surface against the glass. You could get them powder coated or professionally painted for a very durable finish.

You may want to consider using a SMALL bead of silicone caulk to seal them to the glass to prevent moisture from getting under them... Hard to say, you don't want to create a moisture trap but you don't want to let rain get forced in under it at 50MPH. I would probably caulk the forward and upward facing edges and not the others. I'm serious about it being a small bead too, you're just trying to seal it up a bit, not glue it on.
