starter removal/installation
well, ive been having problems with the car turning over, i thought it was cuz it has been below freezing all damn winter, the colder it got the worse it got...well, i guess thats not it
when i hit the starter it seems to jiggle something to make it click, and sometimes it even sparks(woah) i called my mechanic buddy and he told me it sparks cuz the starter is bad, he gave me an explanation but i cant really remember lol... this is when the starter refused to turn over...so i got a new one. well, i go to pull the starter out and the top bolt is almost impossible to take off, what would i be able to do to get this bolt off? pictures/videos would help alot, ive read alot about using extensions and a swivel adapter but i am not really understanding this method.. HELP PLEASE! 1989 n/a supra automatic. |
The extensions and swivel IMO is the best way to do it.... You'll have a hard time getting any pictures or videos of it though; kind of a tight spot to get a picture.
There's this thread in the MKIII FAQ to read through if you haven't already. |
yeah, read that one over and over, unless autozone will rent me that awesome wrench in the 2nd post there, ill just have to go with the ratchet swivel option or just alot of cussing and slowly turning it till it comes off

dude u can probably get another wrench or a tube to use for more leverage its been a while since my mk3 was running but as far as i remember the starter wasnt hard to take off

It's easiest to remove the intake plenum. I've one it both ways and I swear taking the whole plenum out was quicker and hurt less.

Just be careful around the knock sensor. I have broken 2 in the past.
