Distributor to Coil pack conversion?

has anyone tried swapping out the Dist for a cam sensor and slapping on a coil pack on an NA mk3 as a power adder?

just curious.....

There's not really any power to add... The 7M-GTE's ignition setup would require a complete electronics swap which is a bad idea as the timing maps are more conservative, you'd lose the ACIS system, and you'll need to add a fuel controller to get the fueling back to normal for a N/A.

You could look into adapting one of the points conversion kits they make for some domestics or a full aftermarket setup like the ones offered by MSD; The MSD6x series if I remember correctly.

It's all overkill though, none of this is going to next you enaough of a gain to justify the work and money... if you gain anything at all.

Hey thanks for the response! I was just thinking that maybe it would be easy IF the GE ecu would support that function of the GTE ignition system. Oh well.
*shrug*

Nope, no good. It wouldn't take much to go the other way and put the GE's dizzy on the GTE though... a bit silly though.
