Waterfall behind dash
 

I've read all the threads about the BHG symptoms and my car has none of them accept the waterfall noise when i start it up, i just got it back from the mechanic yesterday and got him to check for a BHG and he said it was fine, also all the fluids and stuff were replaced and there was no coolant in oil, oil in coolant and theres no white smoke from the exhaust. So my question is is there anything else that might cause the waterfall noise or is that a direct sign of a BHG??

You might have a semi clogged heater core. That is under the dash and could be the cause of the noise. It might even be the servos opening up the vent doors when the car is started. Or maybe you do have a real waterfall under your dash. Sell tickets and let honey mooners stay there...........just kidding....:nuts: .

Mine had it, too. Air trapped in the heater core, cause its higher than the radiator cap.

Make sure heater water valve is open. I would by-pass the vsv for this

***note... water WILL pass thru heater core when thermostat is closed, (on a cold engine)***

Not too hot engine. Heater controls in max hot, with fan on low setting.

Using ramps, or jackstands, Raise the front of car as high as possible (I went 3 feet on mine, till the exhaust pipe tip was almost touching the ground).

Remove cap and drain off (at drain plug into pan) coolant until you can see the radiator core inside cap area. Tighten drain plug. Start engine and let idle for about 20 min. until nice and warm.
You can raise the idle up to about 1000rpm to make the water flow better.
***Note...Don't rev the engine, as it will cause the coolant to shoot out like a whale spout***

The trapped air will be forced out because doing this proceedure makes the core lower than the radiator cap.

Shut off engine, pour drained coolant back into radiator, install cap (new prefered). Lower car. Fill overflow bottle 1/2 way. Test drive.

No more waterfall sound ? Good !

I had to do mine 2x to get it all out. Next day, Check and fill 1/2 way the bottle, as the removed air will be replaced by coolant, so bottle may be low.

Also....2 years after that air removal proceedure, I got a BHG. Note related of course !
So I knew it was the BHG because the waterfall would come back after a few days of performing the above proceedures. 3 times in a month. A chemical block test was finally done, and yes BHG.

After doing the valve job, I cut off the little 'dangly' thing on a new thermostat, and drilled the hole to 4mm. Put the thermo in with hole up top, and did NOT have to do the waterfall proceedure. It let the air bleed on thru when thermo was closed.

Also...leaving the waterfall sound will eventually cause the core to leak !!
Its called cavitation. The air gurgling around will eat away the metal. Same with certain failing water pumps. I've seen several pump housing insides eaten away.

i would assume since you've just had all fluids replaced that you could be just low on water

check the water level and top it up

check for any hoses that may be leaking even if just slightly... this can cause air bubbles in the system

burp the car and see how you get on ;)

Just wondering if the problem got fixed or not. I know some of us come up with a lot of stuff to try when a problem comes up, but it would be interesting to hear if any of them really work or not. Maybe a tape of a gentle running stream might sound better...............never mind, got to get some sleep!!
